Yum-Yum
The name says it all. This super easy dessert is an old family favorite. Whenever I was little my mom and Nana would take me to visit the old Great Aunties. Nana had a ton of them! My favorite was Aunt Ermine. There were also Aunts Agnes, Eva, Bessie Mae and Myrtice. Don’t you love all those old fashioned names? Whenever we would go visit Aunt Ermine, she would always make Yum-Yum. This is so easy to make, you could actually watch your preschooler make it.
Here are the ingredients:
- milk
- Cool Whip (the brand name tastes the best)
- crunchy chocolate chip cookies
- chocolate syrup
You can make this as big or small as you need it. This recipe makes a medium sized casserole dish size dessert. Use fewer cookies for smaller or double it (or more) for bigger families.
Directions:
- Pour the milk in a bowl deep enough for dipping the cookies in.
- Spread a small amount of Cool Whip on the bottom of your pan. This helps the cookies stick.
- Start dipping the cookies in the milk and layer them on the bottom of the pan.
- Spread a layer of Cool Whip on top of the cookies.
- Layer more milk dipped cookies. Continue layering until all the cookies are used. Reserve about 6-8 cookies for crumbling.
- Finish up with a layer of Cool Whip.
- Crumble the reserved cookies on top.
- Use the Chocolate syrup to make a swirl on top or whatever you feel like “drawing.” Once I made a huge dessert and “wrote” Yum! on the top.
- Refrigerate for at least an hour or two or overnight to let the cookies soften. You can also freeze this and let it thaw during dinner. You can also substitute Oreo cookies for the chocolate chip cookies.
This is a very easy, versatile dessert to make. It travels well and taste’s delicious and from experience there are no leftovers. Ever. Enjoy!

Oh I am so thrilled when I come across a “make it with your 2 year old” kind of recipe! It is so important to get kids involved in the food-making process, and super simple recipes are a gem to come across.
Sounds like an easy, tasty dish. Will have to try it sometime soon with the kids.
