Florida is one of the United States’ sunniest and most beautiful states, with verdant jungle, beautiful lagoons, and a long coastline. If you have decided to visit, then there are some things that you need to know first. Whenever you are travelling anywhere, it’s always good to do a little background research about the specific city or town that you are travelling to so that you know what to expect. In addition to conducting background research, you should also take the time to research the region’s history, culture, and customs.
This post will tell you about a few great tips that you need to bear in mind for your trip to Florida:
Accommodation
If you are going to travel to Florida, then the first thing that you need to think about is your accommodation. Florida’s hotels are some of the United States’ most luxurious. During the shoulder season, they are also some of the most affordable, but more on that later. If you’ve never been to Florida before, then staying in Downtown Miami is definitely something that’s worth considering, because you will get the real Floridian experience. Miami’s a party city, where anything goes.
If you want to have a wild vacation, then Miami’s for you. However, it’s also possible to have a refined trip to Miami, thanks to the city’s many museums, galleries, and cultural institutions. Wherever you choose to visit, make sure that you select your accommodation carefully. If you can’t find a hotel then you may be able to get an Airbnb.
Location
Location is everything. We have already covered Miami, but there are many other places in the state of Florida that are worth visiting, like Tallahassee, Jackson, and Tampa. One good thing about staying in Miami is that the surrounding areas and cities are some of Florida’s most popular, so by staying there, you won’t be short on places to go. There are also some very close Caribbean Islands that are worth visiting, that you can go to on a boat or plane from Miami. Another fun thing about Miami is that it’s incredibly close to the Everglades National Park, where you can go fishing or alligator spotting.
Activities
You won’t be short of activities to get involved in Florida. If you are travelling for the first time, then the kinds of activities that you take up depend mainly upon your interests. If you are interested in history, then the area has lots of museums dedicated to the American Civil War and the Native Americans that lived in the region before colonial settlement. If you prefer outdoor pursuits, then Florida has some of America’s best fishing and hunting. You could also go hiking or charter a boat to take you through the Everglades National Park.
Cuisine
Unsurprisingly, Florida’s cuisine is some of America’s best. This is because it is a combination of all of the cuisines of the individual cultures and people that settled in the area. If you are going to go to Florida for food, then avoid eating at big-chain restaurants. To get a real taste of Florida, you have to go to smaller places. With so many blogs and vlogs dedicated to the subject of food these days, it shouldn’t be difficult at all to find a restaurant that you are interested in going to.
Culture
As mentioned previously, Florida’s not short on cultural pursuits for you to take up. However, the best way to learn about Florida’s culture is to get on the ground and speak to the locals. Floridians are extremely friendly and welcoming and have a lot to say. If you are new to the state, getting out into the more rural areas and talking to people is a great way to learn. If you are staying in a city, then head to the inner-city districts and check out small local restaurants and bars. You’re bound to run into some characters!
Season
One last thing to consider is the season of your visit. The earlier in the year that you visit, the cheaper things will be. When spring and summer roll around, prices of everything go up. If you want to get a cheap hotel room and want to participate in fun outdoor activities for a reasonable price, then you need to visit during Florida’s shoulder season. It’s usually best to book hotels over the phone during the shoulder season because online prices might not have been updated to reflect the season.
Florida is a great place to visit, with a lot of history, and a very friendly population. If you haven’t ever been before, after your first visit you will be hooked. Make sure to think through and plan your trip meticulously, so you know what you’re going to do when you arrive, and so that you can save money.
